Thank you and congratulations to our past year's retirees!

For the second year in a row, Surrey Schools is recognizing our past year's retirees remotely in lieu of the traditional retirement dinner, as we continue to safely navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 244 district employees retired during the 2020-21 school year, from almost every role imaginable: principals, teachers, secretaries, education assistants, custodians, facilities staff and more. In the interest of health and safety, the district is honouring these retirees from a distance this year.

"No matter what role they had with the district, their influence and impact on  students,  colleagues and their school communities cannot be understated," said Laurie Larsen, chair of the Surrey Board of Education. "While we may not be able to thank each retiree in person for their dedication to the Surrey School District, we wish to acknowledge their years of hard work and their role in enriching and enhancing the lives of the young minds who fill our classrooms."

"Though their time with the district may now be a thing of the past, their efforts have served to guide our students into the future," said Superintendent Dr. Jordan Tinney. "For their commitment to student learning and providing a safe environment for community, they are deserving of the utmost praise and thanks we can give."

All 2021 retirees will be sent a gift package in the mail. Retirees were also invited to share their favourite memories or stories about their time with the district, which will be featured in future news stories on the district website throughout the month of November.

While we still wish we could thank you all in person, we take this opportunity to recognize your important contributions to our district.

Congratulations on your retirement and thank you once again for everything you've done for Surrey Schools!
