Our Goal

The two-week Elementary Summer Learning program is designed to support Surrey School District 36 students who would benefit from extra practice and reinforcement in reading, writing, and/or math before moving into the next school year. The program is meant to be a positive and supportive experience that helps students feel more prepared, confident, and ready to begin the next school year successfully.

Who Is This Program For?

Your child may be a good candidate for an Elementary Summer Learning referral if they:

  • Are in the Emerging or moving into the Developing stages of learning in Language Arts and/or Mathematics
  • Could benefit from additional time to strengthen key skills and build confidence
  • Can work independently to participate in classroom activities and are able to follow directions given by a teacher

Students are referred to the two-week Elementary Summer Learning Program by their classroom teacher or Learning Support Teacher (LST) in consultation with the school team. Referral letters will be sent out starting April 14, 2026 and are due back to your school by April 27th, 2026.

Important Things to Know

  • All student referrals must be approved by a school administrator before registration is confirmed.
  • The program is academically focused and does not provide specialized programming or support for behaviour, communication, or social‑emotional goals
  • The program is not designed for students on significantly adapted or modified programs
  • The program will run from Monday, July 6 - Friday, July 17, 2026 (10 sessions); 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. Regular attendance for the full two-week program is expected.

Thinking About Summer Learning for Your Child?

  • If your child was not referred and you feel they may benefit from the Elementary Summer Learning Program, please speak with your school’s Principal, who can help determine whether the program is an appropriate fit. If your child is not a candidate for Summer Learning, or if you would like to prevent summer learning loss (“summer slide”), parent resources and learning activities are available on the Summer Learning website to support continued learning at home.
