Literacy and Numeracy
Literacy and numeracy are foundational competencies that support student success across all grades, disciplines, and areas of life. Quality instruction in both areas must be meaningful and intentional, providing students with explicit opportunities to develop the skills needed to read, write, communicate, think critically, solve problems, and apply their learning in authentic contexts. These competencies are not confined to a single subject area; rather, they are integrated across the curriculum and are essential for understanding and engaging with the world around them.
To support students in becoming confident, capable learners, the district develops and implements a range of literacy and numeracy initiatives. These efforts aim to strengthen students’ ability to communicate effectively, analyze information, reason mathematically, and use their knowledge purposefully in school and everyday life. By fostering strong literacy and numeracy skills, the district helps equip students with the tools they need for lifelong learning and future success.
