Humanities Department
(Junior Program Development)

The goal of Humanities is to develop thoughtful, responsible active citizens that can acquire information to consider multiple perspectives and make reasoned judgment.  The school subject of Humanities blends Language Arts (English) and Social Studies into on hybrid course studying the literature, history, religion, politics, economics, art and geography of human societies, both past and present.

In other words, through the study of history and language, we will seek to understand our own humanity so that we might live good, compassionate, intellectually autonomous and above all happy lives.  Social responsibility is a key part of a student's overall success in high school and will be examined throughout Humanities 8 & 9 to support individual students and promote a positive school culture.

Humanities runs through both semesters, and students will work with the same teacher for the entire school year. One of the goals of the Humanities program is to support each student through his or her transition into secondary school. It is hoped that the Humanities program will be considered a caring and safe place for students in their first year in high school. Clear and frequent family/school communication is an asset to this transition process. Please feel free to contact your student's Humanities teacher with questions or concerns at their email address.
