LA Matheson's Career Centre and its Career Education Programs are an essential part of every student's education. Through our work we bring the world to our students and our students out into the world. Our various specialized programs are designed to recognize the diverse abilities, strengths and aspirations of all students, providing them with the knowledge and skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Services Provided

 The L.A. Matheson Career Centre provides students, staff and parents with the following resources, services and information:

  • Resume, Cover Letter and Interview Preparation
  • Career Exploration programs
  • Volunteer Opportunities and Specialized Post Secondary Experiences
  • Post Secondary Information
  • Graduation Transitions Program Support
  • Youth Work in Trades Program Apprenticeships
  • Youth Train in Trades Apprenticeships (Electrical, Heavy Duty Mechanic, EA, etc.)
  • Co-op Program information... and much more!

L.A. Matheson COOP Programs

Co-op Education is a one semester program that includes two academic courses, Career Transitions 12 and three week work experience placements in the career field of their choice. For the school year 2018/2019 we are offering the following:

  • Matheson Co-Op (English 11 and Pre-Calculus 11)
  • Information Technology 11 or 12
  • Culinary Arts 12

Youth Train in Trades Programs

 Partnership Programs are Career Preparation programs developed in partnership with local Post-Secondary Institutions (BCIT, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, VCC) to provide specialized technical training not offered in Secondary schools. Students have the opportunity to complete an entrance level trades training program in conjunction with their Secondary school graduation requirements. Programs offered are: Automotive Service Technician, Automotive Refinishing Pre-Technician, Automotive Collision Repair Technician, Baking and Pastry Arts, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, CADD Technologies, Education Assistant, Electricalal, Hairdressing, Horticulture, Joinery, Masonry, Millwright, Plumbing, Roofing, Steel Fabrication and Welding.
