School Registration
School Registration

The Surrey School District is pleased to welcome all new students to our schools. Due to social distancing guidelines, in-person registration is not available at this time.  Please note that registration at your school of choice is based on availability.

During the pandemic, please visit the Student Registration page of the SurreySchools website for information about registering online.

Upon registration and when requested to do so, the following original documents must be provided:

  1. Proof of birth date for the student (birth certificate or passport).
  2. Proof of guardianship (parents' or guardians' names as shown on child’s birth certificate, or other appropriate legal documentation such as landed immigrant document or guardianship order).
  3. Proof of citizenship for both the parent and student (Canadian Birth Certificate, Citizenship Card, Passport, Landed Immigrant Document, Permanent Resident Card, Enhanced Driver’s License or Enhanced Identification Card).
  4. Proof of residency (e.g., ordinarily resident) of parent/guardian in BC:
    a.   Three pieces of identification showing parent's/guardian's name(s) and the current address of residence (purchase or rental agreement, utility bill, driver’s license, etc.)
    b.   One of the three pieces above must be government-issued photo ID in order to complete the registration process (BC driver’s license, BC Services Card, BCID or BC Care Card of parent/legal guardian).

Individuals born in British Columbia can obtain a birth certificate from BC Vital Statistics. Large birth certificates showing parents' names are recommended.

Documents which are helpful, but not required to register, include:

  • School Records (last report card  plus withdrawal form from previous school if transferring during the school year.)
  • Health Information (Care Card, immunization records and other important health/medical information)

The school district recognizes that personal circumstances may make it difficult for some individuals to complete the registration process. Please discuss any unique circumstances with the school principal when registering. We welcome all new students and we are pleased to assist in any way we can. If you have further questions, please contact the neighbourhood school, or the school district at (604) 596-7733.

Out of catchment registration

As a growing district, enrolment at some district schools is already at or over capacity. For students wishing to attend a school outside their catchment area, an "Out of Catchment" application form must be completed at their current/catchment area school and submitted to the school they wish to attend.

Please see the school district's regulations for more details on how the allocation process works.
