Important AED and Naloxone information for schools

The Ministry has mandated that all school sites in B.C. have a public-use Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and an emergency supply of Naloxone available on-site.

  • Secondary sites must have an AED and Naloxone in place by December 31, 2025.
  • Elementary sites must have an AED and Naloxone in place by September 8, 2026.

Current status: All secondary schools already have an AED and Naloxone on-site. A select few additional sites will receive their AED and Naloxone by the end of December, based on priority order. The first sites to receive equipment will be the Learning Centres and Invergarry Adult Education.

Elementary sites will have their AED and Naloxone installed over the next few months as supplies arrive. At all sites, AEDs and Naloxone will be housed in alarmed cabinets located within 10 metres (30 feet) of the site’s main door.
