BLAST is a set of programs for students that provide support and learning in a positive and safe environment to increase the resources and assets of each child.

Offered twice a week from dismissal to 4:30 p.m., BLAST staff and community partners work to increase the social, emotional and academic development of students through daily activities, mentorship and connections to their school community and culture.

CSP_Programs_518_web.jpgEach of the twice-yearly intakes into the programs can support about 20 students from kindergarten to Grade 7.

Activities offered through the BLAST programs are designed to develop attributes including:

  • Communication skills
  • Problem solving
  • Conflict resolution
  • Critical thinking
  • Academic, organizational and literacy skills
  • Relationship building
  • Physical literacy
  • Understanding of Canadian culture
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Leadership, cooperation and team building

Greater skills lead to greater confidence, self-esteem, a sense of belonging and the ability to contribute, which in turn will lead to greater participation in the community and in school. Students will gain hope, respect, direction and a vision of a bright future.
