Surrey Blended: Elementary Transition Program
On August 26th, the Surrey School District shared its plans to safely return to in-class instruction. These plans reflect the measures put forth by provincial health experts and the Ministry of Education and include the important steps our schools will take to safely welcome our students back in September.
We are confident in our plans, but we know that many of our families are nervous. In response to parent feedback and concerns, we will be offering an Elementary Transition Program that will available to all families who are not ready to have their child return to full-time face-to-face instruction when school begins in September.
What is the Elementary Transition Program?
This program will support families with the intent of a gradual transition back to full time in-class instruction by January 2021. This blended learning option is a combination of online and face-to-face learning through your local school, with a goal of gradually increasing face-to-face instruction.
Students will be grouped by enrolment in a supportive educational structure or class, but parents should expect that students will be in multi-age groupings and possibly multi-school groupings.
Will my child still be in their neighborhood school?
Yes. Your child will still be enrolled in their neighborhood school.
What will the program entail?
What is expected of parents in this model?
In this model, students will spend the majority of their time at home, so parents will need to dedicate substantial time for support and guidance.
Example program schedule
Please note: This is a sample schedule ONLY. Actual scheduling will depend upon the specific program chosen for your child. In-class instruction will gradually increase to full-time by January 2021 beginning with one afternoon per week in September.
How can I sign up for this transition program?
The online registration for the Surrey Blended program has now closed. Those still interested in registering are asked to contact their schools to be put on a waitlist subject to availability.
