The Sullivan Heights Secondary senior jazz band was among dozens to perform at the 2019 Surrey Schools International Jazz Festival.
More than 2,000 student musicians from throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley took to the stage at the 37th-annual Surrey Schools International Jazz Festival.
Secondary students attended Master Class sessions with professional musicians such as Jodi Proznick and Bill Coon, before heading into two days of adjudicated performances (Feb. 22, 23) at the Bell Performing Arts Centre and Sullivan Heights Secondary. The performances included junior and senior jazz and stage bands of all sizes, as well as jazz vocalists.
Numerous group and individual awards, in addition to individual scholarships and bursaries, were announced during an Evening Showcase Concert at the end of the festival.
