The RBC Foundation is investing in Surrey students.
The foundation presented a donation of $40,000 to the RBC Take P-Art program at the Bell Performing Arts Centre Tuesday.
Since 2005, the RBC Foundation has contributed $370,000 to Take P-Art, which provides 6,000 inner-city students in the district the opportunity to participate in artistic creation, event planning, back stage operations and the experience of watching and performing in a top-level theatrical event. Ten classes are then selected to receive intensive workshops with professional artists in their schools.
This year the featured performer was Shiamak Davar International (Canada) Inc., which gave banghra performances at the Bell in February and then visited 10 classes at 10 different schools, where the artists helped students and teachers prepare and rehearse their own banghra dances.
Following Tuesday’s donation, students from the 10 classes performed their unique numbers on stage.
