Sales were so brisk for students selling their wares at the Youth Entrepreneurs' Fair and Showcase that some had to quickly make more stock to sell.

Students from B.A.S.E.S. (Building Academic, Social and Employment Skills) and other Surrey school programs for students with special needs took part in the fair, created not only to showcase the work skills of students with developmental or physical needs, but introduce them to the potential for employment or a home-based business as they transition into adulthood.

While some students created and sold magnets, key chains, cell phone cases and art work, others had hand-BASES fair PaytonDavies.jpgpainted wooden furniture, baked dog biscuits, crafted specialized light switches and prepared potted plants for sale.

Grade 11 student Payton Davies (pictured at right) was selling unique cork magnets adorned with tiny succulent plants, fabric glasses cases and Mother's Day cards made by classmates at Clayton Heights Secondary. As he worked to memorize the prices for the goods at his table, he mentioned it had been busy, sharing the hand sign for "busy" with a visitor.

Money earned from the fair, held at the District Education Centre May 9-11, is put toward purchasing additional supplies in order to sustain the knowledge and skill-building activities.
